Title : |
Agricultural
subsidies and negotiations: strategies and options
|
Author
: |
Parthapratim
Pal |
Pub. Details : |
CENTAD, New
Delhi, 2005 |
Notes : |
This
paper analyses the provisions of Annex A of the July Framework
and shows that, by itself, the July Package will not lead to
any real decrease in the domestic levels of subsidies in
developed countries. This paper points out that there are some
waivers built into the Framework, which may allow developed
countries to maintain and, in some cases, even to increase
domestic farm support and still remain WTO-consistent. |

Notes : |
This
booklet enumerates the past, present and the future costs
associated with the Sri Lankan conflict and provides three
scenarios for the island country for the period of 2006-10 and
beyond. Scenario no. 1 is based on the assumption that the Sri
Lankan Government and the LTTE manage to uphold the ceasefire
agreement till 2010. Scenario no. 2 is based on the assumption
that peace negotiations fail sometime in 2006 or 2007,
resulting in a military standoff between the Sri Lankan
Government and the rebels. Scenario no. 3 is based on the
assumption that a successful power-sharing agreement between
the Sri Lankan Government and the LTTE comes through by
2006-07, leading to normalcy within the country.
