Title : |
Global
economic prospects 2005
|
Pub. Details : |
World
Bank, Washington, 2005 |
Notes : |
A
wave of regional agreements is sweeping the trade world. Both
North-South bilateral arrangements, such as the United States -
Chile Free trade agreement, and South-South plurilateral
arrangements, such as the just-proposed South Asia Free Trade
Area, pose challenges and opportunities for development
countries. These agreements not only influence trading
opportunities for people in member countries and elsewhere but
also violate the most basic principle of the multilateral
trading system: nondiscrimination. Global Economic Prospects
2005 takes on two urgent question: can these agreement be
designed to promote development in its broadest sense, and can
they do so without hurting countries left out.

The
argumentative Indian : writings on Indian history , culture
and identity
|
Author
: |
Amartya
Sen |
Pub. Details : |
Penguin
, New Delhi , 2005 |
Notes : |
India
is a large and very diverse country with many distinct
pursuits, vastly different convictions, widely divergent
customs, and a veritable feast of viewpoints. The
Argumentative Indian brings together an illuminating selection
of writings from Nobel prize-winning economist Amartya Sen
that outline the need to understand contemporary India in the
light of its long argumentative tradition. The understanding
and use of this rich argumentative tradition are critically
important, Sen argues, for the success of India's democracy,
the defence of its secular politics, the removal of
inequalities related to class, caste, gender and community,
and the pursuit of sub-continental peace.

It
is now a tautology to say that energy derivatives are very
important financial instruments. Energizing a market of
billions of dollars, they are useful to many different
organizations and find their place in myriads of both business
and personal portfolios. This book is written for those
readers who are just entering the field of energy derivatives,
but yet who still have a background in other areas of
financial engineering. It emphasizes risk minimization, and
also gives some of the author's unique perspective on the
subject. Only the first six chapters were read by this
reviewer and so only these will be reviewed here. |
